Business and Entrepreneurship
To be able to bring a product on the market successfully and convince users to buy the product, it is necessary to have some knowledge about the way a business takes shape, what is needed to make the product profitable and involvement of stake-holders. The elective Introduction to Business Design was extremely beneficial in building a foundation of this knowledge. I focused in the product-as-a-service shift and learnt to analyze users, how to create a brand and its campaign, how to create a competitive advantage through technology development and I gained knowledge about revenue streams and cost structure. This knowledge enabled me to create a business model canvas for Project 1 as well. 
As this is an area I do not have natural feel for, I will have to keep using this area in more projects. To grow in this expertise area I want to broaden my knowledge on business design methodology by both theoretical and practical learning. I will do this by reading the book 'Business Design Thinking and Doing' by Angèle M. Beausoleil and I will work on the interactive business cases facilitated by the book.

Creativity and Aesthetics
For me, creativity and aesthetics means challenging your creativity and creating out-of-the box solutions. This past year, I have spent a lot of time working and growing in Creativity and Aesthetics through prototyping, brainstorming and researching. 
With the course Creative Programming, I learnt how to convey aesthetic and creative visuals digitally, this is very different than an object that can be held and touched. From Idea to Design and Project 1 are courses where I explored creativity the most, by brainstorming and iterating during the entirety of the course. I discovered the importance of cohesiveness in a product and I explored my creativity by working with different brainstorm techniques and other ways of generating ideas. During Project 1, I researched and created the aesthetics for the app which has been a very valuable experience. To be able to brainstorm, iterate and convey my ideas more clearly I followed the course Exploratory Sketching, where I learnt to sketch confidently, clearly and of more advanced quality than before
Although I learnt a lot in only a year, there is still more for me to discover and improve in. Something I would like to learn in a next project is making use of a modelling program like Blender to be able to communicate ideas even better and create great visuals. In order to do this, I am going to be attending a workshop on Blender and using this to create two different models.

Math, Data and Computing
The expertise area Math, Data and Computing creates a base in skills like analysing and simulating complex models and data, and being able to create solutions based on this. This can be done over individual cases, but also over larger groups of data.
My first experience with programming was during Creative Programming, where I learnt how to create visuals in Processing, a Java programming language, and how to let these visuals interact with Arduino and an Arduino Uno board. Creative Electronics was a challenging but rewarding experience for me, due to the fact that electronics and building circuits is something that I have struggled with in the past. This caused me to go out of my comfort zone often and greatly broadened my knowledge about circuits and testing. My analysation, observation and solution-seeking skills have been developed through Data Analytics, Physics and Calculus, as these courses required me to be immensely thorough and trained my critical eye. Physics and Calculus gave me the theoretical knowledge to build further on in other courses. During Data Analytics  I learnt how to code in Python, which was challenging as it differs from Arduino and Processing a bit. This caused me to be more focused on detail and have an evaluative mindset. 
As I have always struggled with electronics, I need to keep using these skills and I want to build my knowledge further by using this in prototypes more. When a prototype during a project makes use of electronics, I want to create at least three iterations.

Technology and Realization
To be able to create an idea is one step in the process of designing, but to be able to make this idea come to life is just as important. The ability to visualize and demonstrate your concept or experience is crucial to creating a product.
I worked on this expertise area by creating prototypes for Project 1 and From Idea to Design. For From Idea to Design, I created an app in Canva, worked on the packaging and components of the product like soldering buttons and lights together. For Project 1, I created a working prototype of the app in Figma. During the second semester I followed a Figma workshop to gain the necessary knowledge use this program. To be able to create prototypes and build interactive systems I followed the courses Creative Electronics and Creative Programming, where I learnt how to code and to create electrical systems with sensors and mechanisms. I have connected digital visuals in Processing with buttons on Arduino and combined Arduino with circuits. This gave me many insights in electronics and the possibilities with this. 
My goal for Technology and Realization is to be able to have more diverse skills to create a prototype. This goal can be combined with the expertise area Math, Data and Computing, as I want to be able to have more competency in electronics. Next year I will attend workshops about electronics, circuits and Arduino.

User and Society
In my vision I mention creating for people who have mental or physical disadvantages. To create a product that meets the interests and needs of people I need to be able to connect with users and involve them as the main stakeholders through all phases of  design process. 
During the course User Centered Design, I acquired knowledge about users, the user design process and key methods and approaches. This happened by gathering information, designing with the user in mind, conducting interviews, prototyping and evaluating this. I expanded this knowledge during Project 1, where I conducted and analysed interviews and questionnaires, which we implemented in the final design. The ethical values that a product meets I have learnt during USE, where I followed the track of Behaviour Change Technologies, which investigates and challenges moral values which may interfere with the ethical rightness of a product that intends to change behaviour of the user. 
My goal for this expertise area is to conduct user tests on a prototype and implement this feedback, as I have not been able to do so yet in past projects. I will perform a minimum of three user tests in my next project and alter the prototype based on this.

Design and Research Processes
During the past year I have explored different design processes. During User Centered Design and From Idea to Design we worked with an RTDP model. This model was really effective to keep the workflow high and it stimulated to keep reflecting on the process. During From Idea to Design and Project 1 we mainly used the double diamond model, which was really useful as we had made a lot of changes in our direction during Project 1. 
Something that I found very valuable during Project 1 is the exploration of brainstorm techniques, we tried multiple techniques like quick-and-dirty prototyping, storyboarding and 5-3-2 brainwriting. This was great to find where my creativity lies and what motivates me the most. 
For the creation of the product in Project 1 we needed insight from users and experts, so I performed interviews and created questionnaires This was of great worth to me as my vision is extremely user-focused, so I wanted to get more experience with this as well.
